The 6.5-acre site will include affordable-rent, shared-ownership, and rent-to-buy properties. The work will also include the sensitive restoration of the historic Grade II-listed cricket pavilion for future use and the creation of a pond.
IGE Consulting completed a programme of geo-environmental investigations to support the planning application for the proposed redevelopment, which secured planning committee approval last week.
This involved preparing Phase 1 and Phase 2 Geo-Environmental Reports, as well as conducting thorough intrusive ground inspections across the site.
Our investigations identified a small number of targeted measures that could be incorporated into the proposals to manage the site’s environmental and ground-related risks.
For example, we recommended a detailed enabling works and earthworks specification to address environmental ground risks without adversely affecting the foundation design and provided guidance on appropriate drainage and water-control measures in areas with shallow groundwater and low infiltration rates.
This proportionate approach avoided the need for site-wide treatment and enabled Breck Homes to proactively mitigate risk across the project as they work to deliver new homes to the Merseyside area.
Commenting on the project, IGE director Andrew Edwards said: “Supporting Breck was a great opportunity to contribute to a development that will deliver much-needed new homes to the area while retaining and restoring an important part of local sporting history.”
“The redevelopment at the former Huyton Cricket and Bowling Club is a strong example of how IGE Consulting’s measured, site-specific investigations can support the effective reuse of previously developed land.”
